Historicism (Christianity)

While both use the linear, or continuous, historic interpretation, and the day-year language of prophecy, I separated the "continuous historic" section from Historicism, because as far as I can discern, the doctrine of historicism universally declares the pope, papacy or Roman Church as "The" "Antichrist", "beast" and the "man of sin".

"Key features of Protestant Historicist interpretation

Common features of Reformationist Historicist interpretations which makes them controversial are the identification of the Antichrist (1 and 2 John), the Beast (Revelation 13), the Man of Sin or Man of Lawlessness (2 Thessalonians 2) , the "Little horn" of Daniel 7 and 8, and the Whore of Babylon (Revelation 17) with the Roman Catholic Church, the Papal system and each successive Pope himself (a common position held by Protestants in the Reformation, which is not prevalent today). Such an identification, however, is not unique to post-Reformation Historicism, has not been held by all Historicists, and has been and is currently, held by some Futurists and Dispensationalists."

It's certainly no surprise that the church of the Middle Ages would try to shoehorn the pope in as a figure of "The" "Antichrist" considering the papal torture and slaughter of so many non, and former, Roman Church Christians.

SDA have their own section because they follow Ellen G. White.
